Clancy, Tom—The Hunt for Red October

I admit to having made the mistake of seeing the movie adaptation of Tom Clancy’s 1984 novel, “The Hunt for Red October,” before reading the book. The only real problem with seeing the movie first was that I kept imagining Russian sub captain Marko Ramius with Sean Connery’s accent.

NASA Rover Lands Safely on Red Planet

CNN.com reports that NASA’s Mars rover, Spirit, has landed successfully on Mars and is transmitting images.

Spirit’s sister probe is expected to land on the red planet later this month, we’ll see how it fares. Most probes sent to land on Mars are mysteriously never heard from again after their attempts to land.

Bradbury, Ray—Fahrenheit 451

“Fahrenheit 451—the temperature at which book paper catches fire, and burns . . . ”

I heard of Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451 a few years ago when I saw five minutes of the 1966 film adaptation. I don’t know why, but I never saw the rest of the film. The idea stuck with me though: firemen in the future being responsible for burning books, rather than saving lives.
